3 Twists Side Pony

A lot of the time lately we have just been pulling Miss M's hair to the side and flipping it under. We love to add accessories from Snapbandz. This hairdo is a simple variation. Start by parting the hair on the side to the crown. Next make another part about an inch or so parallel to the first. With this section of hair you will make 3 rope braids. To make a rope braid, separate one section of hair into two pieces, twist both pieces the same direction separately and then twist them together the opposite direction. I have my daughter hold each rope as I do the next. Then part the hair from the crown to the ear, comb smooth and add a small elastic. You can do this step before you make the rope braids if it is easier. Add the 3 rope braids to the pony and secure again. I just used my pinky to flip the hair down through the pony. You can use a topsy tail or back of a rattail comb for this as well. I almost always flip Miss M's pony tails...I think it makes it lay nicer and look more polished. Braid on Pony Short Hairstyle

We are loving M's new short hair! There are still lots of things you can do with shorter hair. For this we started by parting the hair on the side but close to the center. We combed it to the side and parted from the crown of her head to her ear and added an elastic. We left the elastic a little loose so we could flip it under later. Next we went about an inch or so from the first part and made another. With this hair you will make a braid. It works best with damp or wet hair and I use a little hairspray as well. Comb the hair towards the ponytail and start a plain 3 strand braid. You can also do a twist. This is very similar to another hairdo we did when her hair was longer. Add the 3 strand braid to the pony with another small elastic and then flip under. You can use a "topsy tail" or something to flip it but I usually just use my pinky finger. ;) We used the straightener to curl the ends of her hair under a little. We finished off the look with a deep pink daisy from snapbandz.

Valentines Hairdo 2013

Here is Miss M's Valentine do for 2013. I started by getting the hair damp and parting it on the side. Then I parted it on the opposite side to make a box on the top of her head. Using the back of my comb I "drew" a heart inside the box created a heart shaped part. Get it? Then I combed it into a ponytail at the bottom of the heart and loosely put in an elastic. To do the heart shape you want to flip the hair up using a topsy tail, rait tail comb or your pinky finger. I had my daughter hold this hair out of the way as I combed the rest of the hair into a side ponytail. Then I sectioned the top pony tail into two pieces. Each side makes a rope. Remember to do the rope just twist both pieces of hair the same direction and together the opposite direction. This definitely works better with damp hair and I use a little bit of hairspray as well. After I did the first rope I had my daughter hold it as I did the second. Then I took both ropes and brought them down to the bottom pony tail and secured with an elastic. I used short bobby pins to pin the ropes down and to create a heart shape. I took a long section of hair from the pony and wrapped it around to cover the elastic and secured with a small clear elastic and pulled tight. The cute little ribbon hearts were so easy to make. They are just glued to a bobby pin! I stuck them in and used a second bobby pin creating an "x" to make sure they held all day. To finish it off I used my straightener and curled the pony tail a bit. I bet she gets lots of compliments at school today! Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Headband and side pony

This one was a little different. I thought it was pretty simple so I didn't take step by step photos.
I started with four small square flip under knots all flipped so they pointed toward one ear. They were arranged like a box at the front of her head. I took the remaining hair and pulled it into a side pony and added the headband betweeen the two rows of ponies. Then I took the hair from the two ponies on the left and "linked" them and secured the hair to the next two ponies. (I was in a hurry and just used whatever elastics I grabbed...would have looked better if I did them all the same color.) I took the hair from the two ponies in the front and made a rope braid and attached it to the large pony. (To make it the headband stay on even better you may want to do the knots on the bottom as well.) I wrapped a piece of hair around the elastic and pulled it through with my topsy tail to hide it. Have I mentioned that I LOVE this flower? Well I do. It is an eggplant gerb from snapbandz.com and is on a cream nylon headband. She looked too cute!

Two rope braids+half pony

I started this one by sectioning a square on top of her head and adding an elastic to the back right side. You should have hair still down on the right and left sides of her head.
With the hair on the left side of the pony I split it in half from the front to the back of her head. With the section of hair closest to the pony I made a rope braid and secured it to the pony. I did the same thing with the remaining hair on the left side. Just make sure that the two braids start in different spots so they are next to eachother and not overlapping. (Remember to do the rope braid you just take two pieces of hair, twist them the same direction and then twist the two twists together the opposite way you twisted the twists. haha I promise it's simple.)

With the hair on the right side of the pony I combed it toward the pony and wrapped it around the elastic twice.

I used my topsy tail to take the hair down through itself hiding the elastic. If you don't have a topsy tail I have seen people just use a pipe cleaner and make their own. Very simple...and cheap!

So cute!
It would look good with the hair down and straight but I decided to adds some curls with my good old curling iron. Love it!

Headband with Side Pony

I thought I would come up with a couple new ways to wear our cute headbands from Snapbandz. For this one I just put her hair in a side ponytail and made a messy bun. Then I added the headband with the flower in front on the bun. I did a couple elastics in her hair to hold it all up because it isn't quite long enough yet without them. This would be cute with any style of side ponytail.

Uneven braids to Side

Start this one by sectioning off a square at the top of the hair. Tie or clip the hair while to keep it out of your way.

Because her hair is shorter now I left hair down in the back. When her hair was long I used all of her hair so it was all up. You are going to make six pony tails around the head. I started on the left side of her head. I combed the hair towards the right and added an elastic on the right side. Do two ponies on the left side, two on the back, and two on the right side. The right side of her head is where the bun will be. On this side you want the left pony to have the elastic on the right side and the right pony to have the elastic on the left side so they come together.

After you have all six ponies done go back to the left side and start on the braid. I did an uneven braid this time. I usually like to do the rope twist. For the uneven braid you just do a normal 3 strand braid but section the hair unevenly. I did two small pieces and one large. Braid and attach to next pony. Continue to the the fifth pony tail. The last pony will not have a braid attached. Now for the top. Unclip the hair and comb to the right side of her head. Split the hair in two sections. Then split each section in half and make a rope. The ropes will cross. So the left one will attach to the very front pony and the rope on the right will attach to the second pony back. To finish it off I just took all the hair and made a messy bun. Attach a cute flower to top it off. This hairdo lasted us two days. The second day I took out the messy bun and made two tight buns and attached a small flower. Sorry no pics. I hope that all makes sense.
